Frequently Asked Questions
Students often don’t know where to begin or what to ask, so we have collected several answers to frequently asked questions. We encourage you to ask these basic questions to any organization in which you may be interested (remember, slick websites and brochures doesn’t always mean best quality!) and remind you to watch out for organizations that skirt the bounds of legality in order to raise their prices and diminish their promised services in the name of a quick profit. We have, of course, included the answers as they apply to our organization.
Do you have any enrollment fees or additional administration fees for your programs?
Many organizations charge such fees, usually in the range of 100€, without making this clear in their price tables. We at Easy Languages do not do this. A small number of our partners have enrollment fees based on their local laws; these fees are clearly marked at the top of the principal price table for any such programs on our website. We do not have any fine print.
Is the additional cost for single rooms regular and systematic?
Here at Easy Languages, yes it is. See the price table for your program, and what you see is what you get.
Is there an additional fee for additional courses?
For most programs, you can add additional lessons to create a more intensive study program. In general, there is an additional fee associated with this.
Exactly how many weeks of courses are there?
Many organizations offer very short "academic years" of around 30 or 31 weeks, and do not specify exactly how many weeks of vacation are in each one. In our courses, an academic year is generally around 48 weeks, although this may vary based on the program. The exact length of each stay, as well as number of weeks of vacation, is specified on each program summary page.
How long is an "hour"?
This seemingly obvious question is a very important one. Many schools define hours or lessons as short as 45 minutes for administrative or academic reasons (many believe that 60 uninterrupted minutes of classroom activity is too long for students, and may actually be counter-productive). Certain unscrupulous organizations take advantage of this to convince prospective clients that their programs include more class time than students will actually attend. We at Easy Languages deals with this system by clearly marking the length of the lessons on each program summary page. (many of our partner schools define hours as 50 or 55 minutes)
Are books and other academic materials included? If not, how much are they?
Each of our program pages specifiy what material is provided, what students must purchase, and at what price.
Are the professors free-lancers or regular employees of their school? Are they Native Speakers?
The status of the professors is generally a good indicator of the quality of education. Although we strive to provide this information on our website, this is something that changes frequently. Please ask us for more details on the program you are interested in.
What is the class size?
This is another great indicator of quality of education. The sizes of all of our classes are marked on the program pages.
For youth programs: Are supervisors dedicated personnel or simply older students?
Some organizations allow somewhat older teen-aged students to accompany younger students on supervised voyages in order to make their supervisor-to-student ration look higher than it really is. At Easy Languages, all of our supervisors are dedicated personnel, hired specifically for the purpose.
