Learn Italian in Rome

Italy, or lo Stivale (the boot) as Italians often call it, is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and for good reason.  The climate is warm and sunny yet temperate, the country is famous for its fashion, the local cuisine boasts delicious pizzas, pastas and risottos, and there are miles and miles of sandy beaches and picturesque coastlines.  Additionally, Italy, as the birthplace of both the Roman empire and the Renaissance, is historically one of the major centers of western civilization, and linguistic programs here are as culturally stimulating as they are relaxing.

Rome, the capital city of Italy, is the at the geographic, cultural, and economic center of the country.  The city is dotted with ruins from the ancient Roman Empire, buildings and churches from the middle ages, and art and architecture dating from the Renaissance and Baroque periods.  It also hosts the territory of the Vatican City, the world’s smallest country and the effective capital of the Catholic Church.  In the evenings, the streets are brimming with activity, from the many restaurants that serve excellent Italian cuisine to concerts halls hosting both classic and modern musical events.

The School

Our partner school in Rome is a friendly and small language center that specializes in teaching Italian to foreign students who are preparing to take the CILS and IT (Certificate of Italian, advanced level) examinations for entry into Italian universities.  It is located in the historical center of the city, just a stone’s throw from the Coliseum and Termini Station.

Courses

Classes are held from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, for a total of 20 lessons of 55 minutes per week.  If there are fewer than 4 students enrolled for any given course, the number of lessons will be reduced to 15.  The school facilities are very modern, with a literature library and media library available to the students, including appropriate viewing equipment.

The school is a member of ASILS (Association of Language Schools of Italian as a Foreign Language) and ELITE (European Federation of Associations for Teaching Mother Tongues).

Students can consult or borrow books from the school’s library.  The movies,  in VHS or DVD (with subtitles in Italian) are available for viewing at school in the afternoon.

Extra Curricular Activities

The school organizes, assists and encourages its students to participate in its numerous socio-cultural activities in their spare time, making their stay in Rome a more pleasant and stimulating experience.  Many of the activities are free of charge, others are at a reduced or discounted price.
Cultural activities consist of tours guided by an art historian, watching Italian films with an introduction by a teacher, assistance in museums reservations, discounted prices for theater, opera, ballets and concerts, and discounts in bookstores.
Social and free time activities consist of visits to different neighborhoods, lunches with the teachers, school parties, visits to typical nightclubs, sport club discounts and cooking courses for amateurs at a private house.
On weekends, students can go on excursions to Florence and Naples.

Accommodation

We offer two options for accommodation:
  • Host family: Individual room in an Italian host family.  Breakfast and evening meals can be arranged (see price table), although the student will be able to cook for him or herself.
  • Individual or shared room in a shared apartment, with kitchen.
Students may arrive the Sunday before their classes begin and depart the Saturday after classes end.
