Learn Spanish in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Argentina’s name derives from the Latin word argentum, or silver, after the riches that early Spanish explorers and conquistadors hoped to find there. While they did not find the fabled mountain of silver and gold that the El Dorado legends alluded to, they created the foundation for the country that would soon encompass the richest natural resources in South America. Aside from the resources that can be extracted from the soil, the landscape itself is among the most beautiful in the world. From the mountains of Patagonia and the islands of Terra del Fuego to the tropics at the southern edge of the Amazon basin, Argentina possesses a breathtaking diversity of climates and geographies that make it the perfect destination for an extended stay.Buenos Aires, with its population of almost 3 million people, is the hub of South America. Its port, which is the gateway for trade to all of Argentina as well as Paraguay, Uruguay, and large portions of Brazil, is one of the busiest in the world. Its busy streets packed with points of interest will please even the most cosmopolitan of visitors. Buenos Aires is the birthplace of Tango and the center of the Argentinian cinema industry. The University here has produced 5 Nobel prize winners and the city was considered the cultural capital of Argentina for the latter half of the last century (having wrestled this honor from the equally impressive city of Cordoba). Buenos Aires is a busy, stimulating, and fun place to improve your Spanish and enjoy life.
